Definitely not another typical kung fu movie! In the wildly imaginative and action-packed Kung Fu Hustle, petty thief Sing (Stephen Chow) aspires to be a ruthless gangster. Stumbling across a gang-controlled apartment to extort money from the locals who are actually kung fu masters in disguise. Sing’s actions attract the notorious Axe Gang, and set off a relentless chain of events that brings the clans together in an explosive battle.
Okay it may not be the most realistic film fight ever but it’s certainly one of the most imaginative and unique featuring furious kung fu, amazing visual effects and a hilarious dose of comedy. Stephen Chow displays his talent as both a director and an actor as characters explode off the screen with bigger then life action, battling like mighty comic book superheros. The impressive action is also thanks to the superb choreography talent including both Sammo Hung and Yuen Wo Ping who each worked on the film at spate occasions.
Stay tuned for Kung Fu Hustle 2 which has been announced for a 2010. That same year Chow’s remake of the Green Hornet is also scheduled for release! Chow is a big fan of Bruce Lee and shows respect for many Chinese martial arts veterans by bringing back popular 80s and 90s stars to act in his films including Kung Fu Hustle and Shaolin Soccer.
